On 10 January at 10am EST, the US Supreme Court heard oral arguments between TikTok and the US Department of Justice on whether the ‘ban-or-sell’ law violates the First Amendment to the US Constitution.
The oral arguments lasted about 2.5 hours, and during the live stream, the US Supreme Court justices reportedly indicated that they were likely to uphold the divisive law, meaning that TikTok may not get an extension. If ByteDance does not sell TikTok, the law will prohibit TikTok from operating in the US from 19 January.
